As a mental health advocate and suicide attempt survivor, Kelechi works with behavioral health systems on how to consider the voices of those who have survived and considerations they have to offer. Kelechi joined CBS This Morning with Gayle King to discuss suicide prevention strategies and things to be aware of from an attempt survivor’s perspective. Watch the episode here.

Kelechi was invited to share her thoughts on the state of the California Mental Health System during the CalMatters Hope on the Horizon Panel – watch her join some heavyweights on the topic, including Senator Jim Beall, as she discusses the importance of integrating communities into the design and implementation of mental health services.

She is featured in The Voice Award Winning documentary The S Word, which follows the lives of suicide attempt survivors in an effort to eliminate stigma of mental health issues.

Kelechi sits on the advisory board of JASPR Health and provides content expertise. Funded by the National Institute of Mental Health, JASPR Health has developed a tablet-based application to help people who are suicidal while they wait in emergency departments. The app features a comprehensive suicide risk assessment that includes patient directed crisis safety planning, skill building activities to help people reduce distress, and a collection of videos from people with their own lived experience with suicide sharing their stories, hope and wisdom.
